Increasing life expectancy together with decreasing birth rate resulted in rapid population ageing.
In the following 40 years half of 2,5 billion population growth will represent people over 60 years old. In 2050 elderly population, aged 60 and older will reach 2 billion people - three times more then now
Global population ration of elderly people will increase twice as much from present 10% to 22 % in 2050, whereas in 1950 they represented only 8%. Growth rate of oldest people, aged over 80 will increase even faster. Presently elderly population aged over 80 is estimated at 90 mln in the world and in 2050 it is being forecasted to reach 400 mln. Those countries experiencing demographic breakdown, will be face series of economic, political and social challanges in order to manage aging society and guarantee proper quality of life for them.
